It's been 20 years since the album "Christmas On Big Island" from the Blue Hawaiians. That's a long time to wait for an encore. But our wait was not in vain. The Blue Hawaiians have returned to the studio to concoct an all new batch of their trademark instrumental holiday punch--blending rock, blues, and surf with swing and exotica (and just a touch of pineapple and cinnamon). And nothing says Christmas like a surf and exotica Christmas luau. "Christmas On Big Island" is considered one of the modern Christmas classics of holiday records--pretty much an essential disc for any serious Christmas music collector (and for most of the not-so serious lovers of holiday sounds as well).
The Blue Hawaiians are recording at Capitol Studios without benefit of a label. And that's where we all come in. For the new Christmas record, working title "Christmas Eve", The Blue Hawaiians are going Kickstarter. As always, with Kickstarter, there are a slew of goodies--er, incentives--available depending upon the amount of your contribution. There are posters and CDs and vinyl (a 2-LP set, this Christmas album will be), t-shirts, surfing lessons, more CDs, and, dude, a custom surfboard by Brawner Boards (only one of those available). How cool is that, brah? Kawabunga!!! And, as always with Kickstarter, the project will only be funded (and you will only be charged) if the band reaches their funding goal. There's just a little over a month to get on board (no pun intended) with this surfing soiree. 13 Christmas classics (medleys bump it to 17) plus one hidden track. Expect the finished product this December, if not before. And WE get to make the magic happen.
