Is 2016 going to go into the books as the Christmas of Country? Perhaps, but not without challenge. A Cappella groups are taking up the fight for Christmas dominance. Among this season's entries is "A Pentatonix Christmas", due October 21. And we've finally got the cover and track list for that one. According to the group, this one is "weirder" than the last. And they promise surprises, treats, and two originals.

And let's add another to the a cappella army. This is Reverb.
Reverb is the a cappella group from Florida State University. Because "Reverb" is a rather popular name or adjective of assorted groups (kids, google before you name your band), you'll frequently see this group identified as Reverb FSU. Unlike some of the other a cappella groups with holiday offerings this year, Reverb remains tethered to FSU, which means that the membership does change every couple of years, much like the fictional groups in the "Pitch Perfect" films. That's not necessarily a bad thing. New members can mean new directions and growth, while returning members maintain the continuity of identity and commitment to excellence. Reverb was first established in 2006 and they compete in the annual Collegiate A Cappella Championship events. And some of their music is available from their web store and iTunes.
Reverb is currently raising money via Kickstarter to record and release their first Christmas album. They're looking to raise $11,000 and there remains about 5 weeks for them to reach their goal (with the album release expected in December). Like all Kickstarter projects, the group gets nothing if they don't reach their goal, and there are incentives attached to various levels of support. I'm not sure what the group has in mind, but their arrangements have won awards and they've also written totally original songs in the past.
