If you recall from the review, I was particularly impressed by Scott's ability to move easily from genre to genre. "Christmas Spirit" is a pretty straight ahead Blues, gritty and powerful. When it comes to Christmas Blues these days, I find we either get something that's too smooth or too Rock N Roll. There are certainly exceptions, but "Christmas Spirit" hits that Blues sweet spot and belongs in the company of the holiday records of Freddie King and David Dee. Really, I am beyond thrilled to add "Christmas Spirit" to the canon and beyond thrilled to be the one to bring it to you first.
Scott recorded his first single for Harms Way Records in 1985, a dance number titled "Sweat The Night Away". While with Back Beat Records, he scored a number one single on the UK Dance charts with "Not So Far Away". In more recent years, Scott has recorded a few albums with Electrified, the DC area Blues band featuring Tony Fazio and his amazing guitar, and a single for Universal distributed JMD, "That's How I Get Down". His most recent single, recorded with Fetal Records label mates Law & Order, is "The Mousetrap"--a fusion of Funk and Rock.
And then there's the tour de force Scott turns in on "A Colorful Christmas", showing his chops on Gospel, Blues, Street Corner Soul, straight up R&B, and even Bluesy Ska.
Scott Taylor's singing--the music he makes--is not only electrifying, it tends to be positive and uplifting--even on a gritty Blues number like "Christmas Spirit". "I know I was put on this earth to make music and generate love," Scott says. If I get a vote, I'd say he's succeeding at that mission.
"A Colorful Christmas" arrives November 20 and you can order your copy from Fetal Records. You can follow Scott Taylor at Facebook, Twitter and ReverbNation.
