Phony Ppl are a rap crew collective from Brooklyn. They write, rap, play music , produce and generally try to have a good time making good sounds. Kids These Days are a Chicago crew, doing what they call Traphouse Rock, which draws upon influences past and present as varied as Outkast and Wilco. The two groups joined up not long ago to create "Mary Christmas", a free Hip Hop download via Soundcloud (while it lasts).
Another fine example of modern soul or urban alternative, "Mary Christmas" is a smooth groove with a backing track of Quiet Storm Jazz and some dope percussion, with a rap overhead that's both sincere and real. The rhymes are reasonably complex and the two crews show undeniable chemistry. PARENTAL ADVISORY on this one, though. "Lightin' up trees," y'all.
