Here's a fine funky groove from Jesse Fischer, keyboard player for the Funk/Jazz quintet Soul Cycle. Jesse, here, does his best to follow in the footsteps of Jimmy Smith and other funky organ players of a bygone era of Funk/Jazz. Multi-talented, Jesse also plays the drums, bass, guitar and vibes on "Let It Snow". He's not bad on those bongos either. Head to Bandcamp for a fine performance from Jesse Fischer, one man band.

Surprised I haven't heard of this cat until just now. Justo Ontario is an emerging artist in a genre they're calling Urban Alternative. That's a catch all for a sound that encompasses R&B, Hip Hop, Funk and Jazz. Truthfully, though he sings it smooth, Justo's version of "Christmas Time Is Here" doesn't show off his talents nearly as well as his latest mixtape, "Astral Travel Volume 1", which you can grab free via Bandcamp. Check out "It Hit Me" and you'll be blown away. "Christmas Time" is from last year and that one is on Soundcloud. 1. Mary 2. Sunday Service On Christmas Day 3. Chevy Chase 4. Santa Clauses Coffee 5. Swissmas 6. Toyland Joyland 7. Musiq 8. Broke On A Good Day 9. Love To Swing On Xmas 10. Long Hair Christmas 11. Buy Some Stuff NAME YOUR PRICE AT BANDCAMP OCNotes WEB SITE Now here's some great s#@t, y'all. I s#@t you not.
OCNotes is a Jazz/House performer from Seattle. He plays with Metal Chocolates and Big Band Cinema. But his spare time is spent reimagining the sounds around him. "Food-$$-Booze-Xmas" is made entirely of Christmas records (with a few TV/movie actualities thrown in). All tossed into the hopper and remixed into an all original holiday experience that's oddly and comfortably familiar at the same time. It reminds me a bit of The Found Sound Orchestra, but with super jazzy undertones and an extra serving of Funk on top. Once I dropped my virtual needle on this sucker, I couldn't put it down. Highlights include "Mary", "Toyland Joyland" and "Love To Swing On Xmas". But, really, it's all good. Check that. It's all super cool, yo. And it's Name-Your-Price at Bandcamp. |
