"Last Christmas Time" was released last year but, since I wasn't around much last year, I don't know if its already been called to your attention. And, if you haven't heard it before, you'll want to hear it now. It's got my favorite kind of Christmas feel--sad and happy all mixed up together. For example, I love the line about the relative who was "drinking down, falling down. How we laughed....and cried." See what they did there? It's better when they sing it, of course. More accurately, its about an emptiness in the present that can only be filled with memories of the past. Christmas is good like that. Those memories of Christmas tend to be some of our most vivid and alive. Anyway, "Last Christmas Time" makes me want to hear more from Toffees. Grab their Christmas song free on Soundcloud.
Toffees is a four-piece band from the outskirts of London who take their influence from bands like The Beatles and The Cure. Their brand of Indie Pop and Rock is based in strong melodies with a rock edge. By the same token, they're original and contemporary. Their sound is likely closer to Green Day than to John, Paul, George & Ringo. Check out their debut record from last year, "Room With A View", to get a better idea than my 4 in the morning ramblings.
