I'm always on the lookout for holiday Blues music. It can be a tough get because googling "Christmas Blues", for example, will just get you a ton of articles about the emotional condition and a link, here and there, to the Sammy Cahn tune. I only mention that because "Santa, I'm Your Girl" has been out there since 2009 and here I am just now stumbling upon it.
The Snake Charmers, a Houston four-piece, specialize in swinging Blues with a Texas twang. Led by Marie Angell, the group's pretty much a family affair as Marie's husband Will Blumentritt mans the bass and their son Eric does the drumming. The relative outsider, as in nota relative, is guitarist Larry Meeker.
"Santa, I'm Your Girl" was a home recording from 2009 and, though it's not a word I generally use in describing Blues music, it's a charming little stroll. You can get the free download via Facebook or ReverbNation. If you want something a little more serious, something that rocks a little harder, the 2009 album "Been Gone Too Long" is pretty near awesome. Just sayin'.
