Although they draw their inspiration from the old Gospel Quartets, and do try to keep those sounds and styles alive, they're also open to new sounds and new ideas (like having 7 guys in a "quartet"). Seriously, though, they work very hard at making their Gospel music sound both classic and contemporary. And they succeed.
Of course, it isn't all about the music. Darrell McFadden & The Disciples (aka DMD) are delivering a message. "There’s a lot people who love this music, but still don’t know much, if anything about God. We want to be ambassadors for the Lord, and present the Gospel in a way people can receive it in their hearts."
Now, if you're feeling a sense of deja vu listening to "It's Christmas Time Again", you're not crazy. DMD released a Christmas album in 2015, "A Very DMD Christmas". And much of the track list, here is the same. What they did was give their first Christmas album a make-over. They dropped a bunch of tracks, added (by my count) two brand new ones, and remixed the rest. The tunes I've listened to side-by-side do sound as though they've been remixed (so they're the same only different, so to speak) with the new versions sounding much crisper and, well, just better overall. That's just my opinion, mind you. Your mileage may vary. But, then again, I figure it's likely most of us didn't buy the 2015 album, so now you got choices. Choices are good. Want more tracks? Buy the old one. Want newer tracks? Buy the new one. Want it all? Buy 'em both. Or don't buy either. Mmmm, but that soulful sound is hard to resist. This might be the one time Bishop McFadden and his Disciples would encourage you to give in to temptation. Just sayin'.
