For many of you, Jackie Evancho needs no introduction, You're already fans. But if you haven't heard her brand of classical crossover, then you're missing a rare phenomenon,. Today, Jackie Evancho is sixteen years of age with a vast life of possibilities ahead of her. As she trains further, her reach will increase and her fame will exceed even that of today.
On October 28, Sony Masterworks and Portrait Records will release her newest album, a Holiday set that will feature two newly penned holiday-themed songs. The album is being called Someday At Christmas. with an offering of eleven songs.
Someday At Christmas will feature classic greats like Placido Domingo, who shares vocals on “Pie Jesu From Requiem” and “Guardian Angel”, “Hallelujah” with Peter Hollens, the US ‘a cappella' singer, and “O Holy Night” with Vittorio Grigolo, the famed Italian operatic tenor. Other songs will be traditional favorites.
For my part, I wish there were a current video from the upcoming Christmas record. And here's why. When Jackie burst onto the scene on America's Got Talent, she was 10 years old. And, yes, she was amazing, but 1) I was concerned that she get to have a childhood, and 2) she was basically singing Classical music, which really isn't my thing. Now that Jackie is 16, I'm still worried about her childhood, though it seems too late to do anything about that. But she's (IMHO) much more amazing now and part of the reason I believe that is that some of her more recent work has been Pop or AC or, shoot, you might call some of it Alt AC (which would be something entirely new). But even the songs I might describe as Alt AC would certainly still appeal to the Classical Crossover people. And, frankly, bringing all of those vocal talents to something more Pop or AC or Folk Pop or whatever you want to call it, there is a capacity for music that is already gorgeous to transcend into something beyond heavenly. Honestly, I can't say I saw that coming. But that's partly because Classical ain't my thing and partly because I'm opposed to child singers on some basic level (let kids have a childhood). Funny, though. She seems to have so much going for her these days, I hope Jackie gets to have an adulthood, too.
