The DJ/Remix Master Ryan Cavanagh, also known as Slow Hands, has put his own particular spin on the New Year's classic "Auld Lang Syne". Smartly, the New York house artist starts with Guy Lombardo's original recording, then works his magic to bring it into 2010. The name Slow Hands apparently comes from Cavanagh's generally laid back and sultry sets. Cavanagh is considered a virtuoso of the genre, a master of make-out disco, and he's a favorite son of his label, Wolf + Lamb. Considering that most New Years Eve parties these days are dominated by house music, Slow Hands' mix of "Auld Lang Syne" is likely to win plenty of admirers--at the turntables and on the dance floor. No action in the video, but it does give you a chance to listen to the song (all 7 1/2 minutes of it), which you can download free from the label web site.

The more I hear from this group, the more I like them. Persephone's Bees contributed a stand-out "Sleigh Ride" to "The Sounds Of Christmas, Volume 2" and now they close the year with a delightfully original and cool "Santa Baby", as perhaps the Flying Lizards might have done it once upon a time, had they ever thought to record "Santa Baby". Get the track free at the band's web site or facebook page. The Rumbar Girls are a promotional gimmick, not a real group, although life does sometimes imitate art. STROH Rumbar is a spicy rum made in Austria for over 170 years. Lately, they've been intent upon conquering the UK rum market. Not sure if the employment of the Rumbar girls and their extended commercials/songs/videos is related to that or not, and this would probably annoy me if I lived in Europe. But, as a non-European, I have to admit to being tickled by this Disco Polka tune for the STROH winter campaign. "In The Snow" can be downloaded free at the Girls' web site. While you're there, you might as well pick up the summer hit "Feel The Spirit" as well. Stick around to read more about the trio, including their favorite Christmas songs or head over to their Facebook page and see what's shakin' there. Here's the video for those who'd rather not. |
