Another MashUp, this one from ...And Sushi! Productions. "The Christmas Carol Of Emmanuel" features contributions from Jars of Clay, Mannheim Steamroller and a whole bunch of other people. Just hit the down arrow and this puppy is yours. Or visit Mashup Citi from whence this comes which, by the way, you should do anyway. Not everything there is to my taste, but there's lots that is--most of it free--and we are in the Christmas season. I dunno, maybe someone out there was looking for a Porky Pig MashUp? Well look no further.

![]() Well, that didn't take long. Kanye West was apparently waiting on the Dipset contribution to his holiday jam when it leaked yesterday. So what are you going to do? The full and final song was due Friday, but "Christmas In Harlem" is out now. This one features drops by Dipset, Pusha T, Big Sean, Cyhi da Prynce, Musiq Soulchild, and Teyana Taylor. You can skip down a few posts to read about and download the leaked version. Collect the whole set. Oh, you can find the final version, well, pretty much everywhere this morning. I got mine here. ![]() Kanye West is a tough act to get a read on. Like the girl with the curl, he seems to alternate between "very, very good" and "horrid". Of late, he'd been in one of his "very good" periods and had promised a track a week until Christmas. Not Christmas tracks, mind you, but still... Then he sort of dropped from site, MIA for weeks. Well, one of Kanye's "track per week" songs leaked onto the net in its unfinished form Wednesday--a Christmas song and a good one. The leaked version of "Christmas In Harlem" features CyHi The Prynce & Teyana Taylor. And Kanye tweets that the full version will drop Friday and feature many more R&B stars. Or, to quote Kanye himself, "Eeeeevrybody on it!!!!" Head over to The Idolator to download the leaked version of "Christmas In Harlem" and stand by for the full joint. It's smooth and soulful, upbeat and happy. It might be the best thing I've ever heard him do. ![]() The band Parlovr is known for "sloppy pop", whatever the heck that is. Is that really a genre? I gather it's sort of a chaotic take on Power Pop. Judging from the write-ups, you never really know what this band is going to do or sound like. They start off with perfectly constructed pop/rock songs and then just kind of......go off. So they might be punk one night, or power pop, or D.I.Y., or....I swear I even heard a little Industrial in there. In any case, they've got a two song digital single that you can name your donation for. Donation? Yeah, all proceeds are going to AVAAZ, a non-profit dedicated to trying to narrow the gap between the world we have and the world we want. Good luck with that. The songs are oddly mesmerizing. "I'm Santa" sounds a bit like Lo-Fi Wombats music while "Spike The Eggnog" (which unfortunately for the kiddies contains some profanity) is a remarkable and spellbinding Biz Markie meets the orphans from Annie concoction that works incredibly well--much better than it should, yo. Hats off to these Montreal dudes for whatever it is this is. It's good. Download it direct from Parlovr. Don't forget to give generously for a better world. Ah, who am I kidding? Enter "0" and have at it. ![]() Yet another version of the Vince Guaraldi classic, this one from Mayer Hawthorne and Stones Throw Records. A note attached to the digital freebie reads: Happy Holidays everyone, All the best Christmas songs were written by Jews, and Chanukah songs suck. This is my favorite Christmas tune, sung over the Vince Guaraldi instrumental. Cheers, Mayer Hawthorne Alright, then. Nuff said. ![]() Sure Will Smith got the TV show, the movies, the fame and fortune with all the trimmings. But it was DJ Jazzy Jeff, afterall, who had top billing on those 80s Hip Hop records that launched The Fresh Prince. And while the world kept its eyes on the charismatic Smith, Jazzy Jazz has continued making good music--writing, recording, producing and more. At present, he's working on an album with singer Ayah. But the pair took a break to lay down this soulful holiday track, "Xmas Time", which they're giving away free (along with the instrumental B side) at DJ Jazzy Jeff's web site for a limited time. It sounds like the took the first few notes from Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas Time Is Here" and took off from there. Lots of other free downloads on the site if you poke around a little bit. Head to Ayah's site for a free album sampler. What's Will Smith given you lately? ![]() Hip Hop Gospel? I don't know, but somehow the combination never really occurred to me. But here it is. Gospel Hip Hop. Or, as others have called it, "thuggin' in the name of Jesus". J Prophet is from Connecticut and he's also a Yale Divinity student. So I'm pretty sure he knows his Gospel, but his Hip Hop might be suspect. I mean, are there really mean streets in Connecticut? Alright, to be fair, he's originally from Cleveland. "Merry Christmas To You" is alright--fair to middling. Nothing essential. But its free at Bandcamp, if you're interested. A nice bit of Ambient Electronica Indie Hip Hop Pop from Mike Skinner and The Streets. Download it free HERE.

Happy Holidays Kragenoff (Last In Line) KEV BROWN'S WEB SITE DOWNLOAD HERE The Low Budget Crew is a collective of Washington, DC Hip Hop DJ's and beat masters. Kev Brown is, more or less, the leader of the group and they've been doing there thing for pretty close to a decade, if not longer. Early in the oughts, they released several popular 12" including Kev Brown's "Nightfall". Then came a few full length albums and, of late, its mostly been Internet distribution. But the Low Budget Crew continues, last year releasing a very popular Christmas EP. This year, they follow up with a full length Christmas record featuring the beatflips of Kev Brown, RoddyRod and Oddisee, among others. The crew doesn't really spend much time on their web site; they just kinda let the news drop on their Twitter feed. So, if you're looking for some cutting edge Hip Hop grooves this Christmas, download it here or hit the link on Kev Brown's Blog. ![]() OK. This is weird. This is so weird, I have to post about it even if it's not truly a Christmas song. This is the kind of thing that, 20 years from now, people will say, "Oh my God, did that really happen?" I mean, this is historically weird. Cliff Roberson is the founder and current head honcho of Roberson Wine, a London wine merchant noted for their extensive selection and frequent wine tasting events. Roberson founded his namesake in 1991 and, in recent years, has been the recipient of some of the highest accolades and awards in the business. For some reason I don't think even God understands, Cliff decided to record a rap song about his life in the wine business. And he's giving it away as his "Christmas single". There's no title on the thing, so I'm just calling it "Roberson's Rap". Download it on the Roberson Wine web site, if you're curious (and even if you're not). You might want to have a glass or two before indulging...I mean, listening. |
