This 2009 song from The Injured List, an unsigned Pop/Rock band from Michigan, is an incredible example of the power of music in general and Christmas music in particular. Last November, the band's vocalist learned that his Aunt, suffering from cancer and undergoing her 4th round of chemotherapy, might not feel well enough to make the trip to the family's annual holiday gathering. "She's been there all 21 years of my life," he said. So he wrote a song for his Aunt and hoped that, through that song, he might give his Aunt the strength to make the journey. He sang the vocals in one take--"couldn't make myself re-do them." His bandmates insisted that he share the song and that's what he did. No word on whether his Aunt made it to the Christmas gathering, but the song has touched the lives of a whole lot of people who were/are going through much the same thing, or even worse. When the emotion behind a song is so real that your voice can't mask what you're feeling, it's impossible not to connect. "Think of Christmas" can be downloaded free at The Injured List's PureVolume page. Please give it a listen. It's a terrific song with a powerful message.
