Renger Koning is an independent film and media composer, who splits time between LA and the Netherlands. "Christmas At Peace Palace" is certainly a cinematic instrumental. Here, let's set the scene for you. It's a Hallmark movie (of course). The female lead is named Chris (her parents actually having named her "Christmas"...oh, you gotta love Hallmark movies). The male lead is named Nick (aren't all male leads in Hallmark movies named Nick?). Nick runs a profitable company, is not what you'd call a people person, and hates the holiday season. Chris has been trying to instill the Christmas spirit in her boss and is rewarded for her efforts by being fired the day before Christmas.
So we're at the final part of the film. Nick is walking down the street, miserable and missing Chris. A happy shopper bumps into him, packages fly. Nick's about to say something regrettable when he notices that the shopper is his old business partner, who sold his interest in the company to launch a silicon valley start-up...which failed. His old partner is now a barista at Starbucks. But he looks happy and he explains to Nick that life is good, working paycheck to paycheck--he is rich in the love of his wife and family--and it's Christmas, after all, the season of miracles. Nick looks up at the top of the town square tree (cue "Christmas At Peace Palace"). The star atop the tree twinkles inexplicably. Suddenly, the spirit of Christmas begins to fill Nick's heart. Cut to Christmas at Chris' house (no dialog, everyone happy). Cut back to Nick, now smiling and wishing people Merry Christmas. Cut back to Christmas at Chris' house. Cut back to Nick, who is now walking faster and handing out money to random passersby. Cut back to the happy scene at Chris' house. Cut back to Nick who begins running as he makes his way to Chris' house. Out of nowhere, Leann Rimes...nope, sorry, wrong movie. Nick reaches Chris' house, she opens the door, no words are spoken (she can see the Christmas spirit has completely possessed Nick), they slowly fall into a kiss in the doorway, snow begins to fall. The End. OK, needs a little work. But the music's a perfect fit.
