Always thrilled to find FREE Christmas Blues. Blues Rock, to be more accurate. And free? Well, that's one option. But Keith Thompson says that tips will be graciously accepted. And, uh, you don't mind if he drops a little hint, do you? His Noisetrade collection is titled "Go Ahead...Tip Me...It's Christmas!" Oh, Keith, you don't know my readers. Such subtlety is completely lost on them. Maybe if you called it, "Tip Me, Dammit!" I shouldn't kid about that. Somewhere along the way, I made a crack like that to an artist and, uh, they actually went back and retitled their set "Tip Me, Dammit" or whatever nasty joke title it was. True story. I swear.
Keith Thompson is a British Rock & Blues guy, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist. In fact, every instrument on the Noisetrade set is played by Keith (except for the violin on"Innocence", which is played by Nick Gibbs) .
"Go Ahead...Tip Me...It's Christmas!" features just the one Christmas song, "Christmas Time Again". The four "bonus" tracks are a small sample of his earlier releases. He notes that he deliberately went for tunes outside of his usual Blues bag. So keep that in mind when you're listening. "Christmas Time Again" reminds me a bit of "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades" (Timbuk 3), but less new-wavey and a bit more Canned Heat. And, speaking of heat, that guitar is en fuego. And, like all British Christmas singles, it had to have all the bells (fer realz) and whistles (just a metaphor).
