I was going over some of the music featured at Christmas Underground this year. A lot of great stuff. I hope you're spending some quality time over there.
This album from Winterval really stood out. It's just Indie Pop splendiferous. As a Bubblegum Child, I'm drawn to Indie Pop and Twee, anyway. But this set is transcendent, all the more so for it's simplicity and lack of pretention. This dude, who wrote and recorded the entire "At Christmas Time" album at home in his bedroom, has such a feel for melody and the nostalgia of the season, it's almost too good to be true. As Jim said at Christmas Underground, pick a song--any song--and you'll be transported to a time and place of Christmas wonder...back before you had to grow up and discovered that the real world isn't all rainbows and kittens.
Highest recommendations for "At Christmas Time" by Winterval. You've heard it from two of us, now, so you know we ain't snowin' ya. This really is as good as it gets. As Winterval himself says, it's "a festive album for our troubled times". And it's free at Bandcamp.
