Bur sometimes, you just miss the boat. And that boat may not be coming back around.
Back around 2011, I think it was, I came across a smokin' jam on Amazon. I don't think I mentioned it here because it was from 2010. So, you know, not new. I kept trying to work it into a Christmas mix for two years and it always got cut. At least I don't think it made any of my mixes (I really don't want to waste the time looking right now). The problem was it was an instrumental and not your typical Christmas type song--not Christmas at all, really. And then I forgot about it completely as life around here rearranged my priorities.
So I'm sitting here, tonight, trying to empty out a few jewel cases that, at the moment, contain unmarked CDs. Some are photo and data files...and some are earlier demo mixes. Usually, I'll just chuck the demo mixes. They weren't the final version, so who needs it? But this one--because I liked the opening track--i let play for awhile. And there it is...this smokin' jam...Progressive Psych Blues Rock meets Free Jazz. Normally, I live for that sorta thing. Of course, its an instrumental and nothing's labeled. So it took me quite some time to figure out what it was. As its no longer on Amazon, where I bought it back then, and as the group's name is surprisingly common among bands for some reason, it took even more time to track down where you might find it.
All worth it, though, in the end. I doubt it'll make any of my future mixes either--gotta look forward. But it was 82 degrees here today...in March. And this is a great tune for the sweltering summer. And, if you're so inclined, I'm sure you've got mixes of your own upcoming. So for your consideration, I offer the Dutch band The Scrooges and "Scrooge"--available via Bandcamp.
