We are at the inevitable portion of the season where there will be multiple front page posts on any given day. No more setting the alarm, checking once and telling yourself, well I'm done with Stubby's for the day. You'll have to stop by more often, make sure to pay attention to the Free List, and, yes, we've still got music waiting to get posted to Previews. Lucky for you, I need at least a few hours of sleep every once in a while, so I can't be as prolific or comprehensive as I'd like to be.
As you know, today is Blackwatch Friday...that day each year when Oklahoma's Fowler Volkswagon and Blackwatch Studios team up for an indispensable collection of new Christmas recordings from Alternative and Indie artists. A limited number are pressed in vinyl and given away free, first come first served, at Fowler VW, and then the entire collection is posted to Bandcamp for free download for the rest of us. They changed up the title this year. Rather than continuing with the Roman numerals, Super Bowl style, this year's collection (the eighth, if you've lost count) is called "The Sounds of the Season".
I know it sounds like I say this a lot, but this may be the best one yet. It's incredibly cohesive. There's very much an 80s vibe to the whole thing and, judging from the cover art, that may have been a deliberate choice. Musically, it's got a feel of something that every member of your family, whatever generation, will enjoy. I hope to do a full review of "The Sounds of the Season" on the Free List later (early favorite--"Filthy Animal" by Chair Model), but I wanted to alert you that it's available NOW. So start those downloads. (And don't forget, all the previous volumes are still available.)
