Here at Stubby's, we like different and we like MashUps. This clip is both. Snubby J is the stage name of Kent Jenkins who appeared on America's Got Talent playing his PVC instrument, inspired by The Blue Man Group. Now attending Loyola Marymount University, Kent has a new version of "Auld Lang Syne" for this year. But it's not a MashUp, so I favor this version from last year. If you feel like supporting Kent as he struggles with college expenses, you can buy a Snubby J t-shirt. Or just pay him a visit on Facebook. Happy New Year, y'all!

If you're looking for a new New Year's standard to join the ranks of the few New Year's standards we do have, look no further than Allo, Darlin's "Will You Please Spend New Year's With Me?" I've loved this song since I first heard it back in 2008. There are two versions of the song, one being the flip to 2009's "The Polaroid Song". The earlier version was included on the debut Allo, Darlin' effort, "Merry Christmas From Allo, Darlin'". Allo, Darlin', for all intents and purposes, is Elizabeth Morris. And we have a pair of videos for you. The first has good sound but no action. The second is live, but the sound quality is poor. We suspect you'll want to watch them both. We love our MashUps around here. From the Dutch master RuinMyTune comes the pairing of Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" with U2's "New Year's Day"--all laid out over an irresistible dance beat just perfect for your New Year's festivities. More from RuinMyTune on Soundcloud and you can follow him on Facebook. I was hoping to post a different song. But how can you ever pass on adorable Zooey? Here's Zooey Deschanel "cheating" on M. Ward with Joseph Gordon-Levitt on "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?", a song that was noticeably absent from "A Very She & Him Christmas". This was posted two days ago and already has over 2 million views. That's our Zooey!
Yet another cover of "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" This one's a bit different, though. AND The Other Bones have this track and two other songs ("The River" and "Feels Like Home") bundled up as a free download. This is what they're doing in Maine these days, apparently, and I wholeheartedly approve.
We love MashUps around here. And tradition. DJ Earworm has made an annual tradition out of Mashing Up the year's music into one delightful ditty. This year's year-end Mash-Up is "World Go Boom" and features the likes of Katy Perry, Adele, OneRepublic, LMFAO, Cee Lo Green and Maroon 5. You can get the full Mash list and download the mp3 free at DJ Earworm's web site. I have some personal stuff going on at the moment--nothing good--but I can't really do much here right now. We've posted our wrap-ups of some of the Advent Calendars on the Free Page, so you can go back and catch up if you need to. Didn't have time to listen to anything or write it up beyond just a listing of the tracks available. Back soon.
The Maccabeats who last year scored with their version of "Candlelight" (a reworking of the song "Dynomite") this year covered Matisyahu's "Miracle". You can buy the song on iTunes and Amazon. First Night: Rocky Hora Chanukah Song - The Shlomones Second Night: Your Stocking's Filled With Candy, But A Pencil Sharpener's Handy - David Rael Third Night: Chanukah Rights - Six13 Bonus video for the Eighth Night of Hanukkah. This is "Holiday Party" from Pella Productions, available on Amazon and iTunes. Who is Pella Productions? Haven't got a clue. Fourth Night: Menorah Hearts - B-Boyz Fifth Night: Chanukah Jewish Rock Of Ages - Aish.com Sixth Night: I'll Be Jewish For Christmas - Katie Goodman And, what the heck. It is the last night. I hate when these guys are on vacation. Seventh Night: Happy Hanukkah - Ali Sternberg Eight Free Songs of Hanukkah (Well, OK, nine) More here: Light Up The Night - The Fountainheads And here: Eight Nights of Hanukkah 2010 One more? Yes, I do have Chutzpah. "Chanukah's Da Bomb", aight? And, finally, a Kickstarter drive to get us a new Hanukkah song and video for next year from Jeffrey Paul Bobrick. The pledge drive is only through February, so don't think you've got all year to sleep on this one. Yes, the video is terrible, not that I have a better one (or one at all). So the question remains, when are we going to see The Carpenters Christmas special on DVD? You know there's a market for it, but that market gets smaller every year. Let's have it already. Forget the video and just listen to Karen sing "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?".
