For the second night of Hanukkah, your Dreidel has landed on Gimmel--free downloads for you!
But I've always felt Shir Soul gets short shrift. Which is a shame. I love the Hanukkah tunes of Shir Soul, not least because their Hanukkah tunes tend not to be re-worked pop hits, but also because their Hanukkah songs are filled with joy and, yes, soul. Shir Soul are a popular wedding band in the northeast, put together in 2005 by David Ross (the guy who shows up last in the video and absolutely brings it all home). David has had a long solo career and, sometimes (as is the case here), the Shir Soul Hanukkah tracks are songs that David performed (solo or with a full band) at some point.
"Lift Yourself Up" was written by Michael HarPaz, an artist born in Detroit who emigrated to Israel some years ago.
For a very limited time--probably just through Hanukkah (and maybe not that long)--Shir Soul's "Lift Yourself Up" is available as a free download from the group's web site.
The New York Boys Choir has released several albums and they're always big sellers. The NYBC is offering this latest Hanukkah single as a free download on Soundcloud. They've already blown through their download cap at least once. And, from the first seconds of "Nes Gadol", you'll understand why. Just BTW, "Nes Gadol Haya Sham" means "A great miracle happened there". You can follow the boys via Facebook.
