Paktuckia is the California band of Aamir Malik. Aamir's got Kentucky in his soul, apparently. "The Thanksgiving Song" may be appropriate for the day, but Aamir would tell you it's really about the state of mind we should all have every day. With apologies to William DeVaughn, be thankful for what you got. It's a Bandcamp freebie.
Alrighty then, we've covered the rock and the rural. How bout some Thanksgiving Hip-Hop? Don't mind if we do. J. Robinson's "Home For Thanksgiving" is a soulful slice. And I mean that on many levels. When J.'s mother passed, he found himself motherless, fatherless, jobless, and homeless--and just 17. He was also on probation. But J. found God, found a family, and found a purpose in life. If anyone knows what it means to be thankful, today, J. does. "Home For Thanksgiving" tells some of his story. And the message is much the same as Paktuckia's. | |
Now this song I really, really like. It might be a little too downbeat for your Thanksgiving, but it's so poignant and beautiful, I just have to share it with you. "Thanksgiving In Rehab" is based on a true story and it comes to us from Americana/Folk artist Carol Lyman. And, if you can't appreciate the blessings of your life--however humble--after listening to this song...well, I give up. Unfortunately, "Thanksgiving In Rehab" is not available for embed. But it is available as a free download on Soundcloud. |
Peace, out.
