TWO-TONED CAT This is our fifth Christmas together. And they said it wouldn't last. Every year (so far anyway) I put together a little mix of some of the free music we've spoken about on the site. It goes up when it goes up and it comes down on January 7--following Little Christmas and the Feast of the Epiphany. And then (say it with me, kids) it is never posted ever again.
Usually, "A Stubby's House Christmas" comes together fairly organically. The music and I, we sort of have an affinity for one anther and the songs know where they belong. Not so this year. I haven't had my usual focus since that thing I said I wouldn't talk about anymore. And it was a struggle to make sense of the mix. I started out shooting for two discs. I tell you true, I don't know that there's been a year since Stubby's started when there was more music that really excited me. It's a crime that Pony Boy isn't on here or anything from the Polaroid collection. And, dang, that Hemispheres EP is just the most gorgeous thing. And the Imani track I really wanted to use was "Come Thou Font" and that's over ten minutes long. So we surely had the music for a double disc. But it just wasn't working.
So what I ended up doing was taking the first part of the first disc and the last part of the second disc. And, now, it sort of works except for one thing. The first half of the disc rocks hard and the second half is really really mellow...and there's not much of a transition between the two. That's why our unofficial mascot this year is Two-Toned Cat. Yes, that's a real cat--no photoshop.

Most years, "A Stubby's House Christmas" somehow manages to contain a Stubby's House Exclusive--a song that was NOT available for download anywhere else on the World Wide Webs; the only way you can get the song without paying for it is by downloading "A Stubby's House Christmas". I am pleased and proud to say that Morgan Shaughnessy has kindly agreed to lend her wonderful Christmas single "Pretty Colored Lights" to our humble gift. Please thank her by visiting her on Facebook and her web site and by considering her equally wonderful EP, "Makeout Scars And Breakout Stars". Oddly, there were a lot of songs about Christmas without the one you love, this year, but Morgan's positive seasonal tune is snuggly nestled between two other positive songs--I don't think it would have worked any other way.
