We've become quite familiar, over the years, with the Power Pop outfit from North Carolina known as Stratocruiser...especially through their annual Christmas singles. Hopefully, like me, you've enjoyed them enough to go beyond the holiday fare and listen to the rest of the output from this amazing rock and roll band.
It's been a roller coaster for Stratocruiser this past year. Last October, they released their critically acclaimed album "The Spark" AND a collection of their "Holiday Music". The DVD "Statocruiser--Live And More" followed in January. But, in April, drummer Matt Brown passed away. It's been pretty quiet in Stratocruiser land since then. Understandably so.
So it was a joyous and life-affirming treat to learn that there would be a 2012 Stratocruiser Christmas single. "Santa, We're Through" is Stratocruiser's (and, specifically, Clay Howard's) answer song to "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", which Clay says he never much liked. That old novelty record, which has somehow wormed it's way into standard status, implies that Santa turns out to be "Daddy", after all. But it doesn't actually say that, does it? So what would you do if you caught jolly ol' St. Nick making time with your best girl? Well, you'd break up, of course. Not with your lady. That would be silly. But, Santa? Oh, yeah, "Santa,we're through".
Click on the download arrow on the widget above to download "Santa, We're Through" or click the link provided at the Stratocuiser web site or pick it up direct from the Stratocruiser Soundcloud page. Anyway you wanna do it, do it til you're satisfied. You can also get the band's tribute single to Matt Brown, "Live Life Every Day", through Bandcamp (with all proceeds going to the Brown family). And, too, you should know that there's a new Stratocruiser album on the way before the end of the year.
Thanks for the early Christmas present, Stratocruiser. For all of them, in fact. And, PS, I love this pic:
