B.B. King is gone. He's gone away. The son of Mississippi sharecroppers who grew up to be the best known Bluesman in the world--and one of the few to ever cross over to Top 40 radio and chart success--passed away late Thursday according to his attorney, Brent Bryson. Long after he'd become an icon and a very wealthy man, B.B. King continued working harder than anyone this side of James Brown, performing live 250-300 nights a year well into his eighties.
There are a lot of artists I regret not having seen perform live before they passed during my lifetime. But I saw B.B. A couple of times. He had a magic and charisma that transcended his music. Can't really explain it, but he had it.
I'm sure I don't have to tell you about his Christmas music. As this is (primarily) a Christmas music blog, I suppose I should post a Christmas song, here. But there's only one song I really want to hear right now.
