Grab yer kilts, bring your bagpipes and don't forget the haggis, laddies and lasses. Mmm. Not much better.
OK, well, more Christmas vinyl on the way--this one from the legendary Scottish Punk Rock band 4 Past Midnight. The group was formed in 1989, so they've been at this for a while, now. When last these purveyors of Punk hit the holiday market, it was with a CD-single for charity, "Nobody Should Be Alone On Christmas Day". That was 2013.
Two years later, they're back with a vinyl record of their newest holiday anthem, "It's Christmas Time Again". The single, which comes on white vinyl with picture sleeve, is strictly limited to 200 hand-numbered copies. The single went up for pre-sale on the 25th and it looks like--well, I can't tell if the bar graph is counting down or counting up, so either almost half are gone or less than half are left. Either way, they're going fast. Extra cool points for including the record on a CD-single with your purchase of the 7". The flip, btw, is a Christmas medley of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"/"Merry Christmas Everyone"/"I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" and, who knows, maybe some other song that was more popular in the UK than here.
Officially, the single releases December 1, at least the download version does. For the vinyl, you'll probably have to go to Orchestrated Dystopia Records (that's who the band links to and the only place I've seen it so far). Remember, you're dealing with the UK, here, so the money is in Pounds. With shipping, you're looking at around $16 (American) if you're in the U.S. We'll probably get a video soon. Til then, you've got the :30 clip at Amazon.

Long intro with very little to do with a coming Christmas song from Scotland's Dan Collins Band. The Dan Collins Band is an Alt Folk/Acoustic Rock--maybe even Folk Punk (?)--outfit whose music is often about the state of the world. "Christmas Eve (In A Nuclear Winter)" is a charity single with proceeds from that and a benefit concert on December 12 going to Support In Mind Scotland, a Mental Health organization providing support to the mentally ill, their families, and others whose lives have been affected by mental illness.
"Christmas Eve (In A Nuclear Winter)" debuts on Saturday, December 12, and you'll find it on Bandcamp (you can pre-order now, if you'd like). And, fortunately for us all, Dan posted a rough demo of the tune on Facebook a couple of months ago. So, just to give you a taste...

It seems the Bay City Rollers have recorded a Christmas album that they'll be dropping on the world on December 18. That's right. While the other Christmas blogs are giving you the latest and greatest from the Indie scene, we've got....bubblegum. And isn't that why you come here? No? What is it then, too much free time?
Three of the so-called "Classic Five" are in the current Roller lineup--vocalist Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and guitarist Woody Wood. You may recall the band released a Christmas single last year. "Rock N Roll, It's Christmas Time" was discovered on a mid-70s demo recording and Les thought it should see daylight. Must have gone over well because there's a whole Christmas album coming our way.
"A Christmas Shang-A-Lang" will feature last year's single and a new one, "Christmas Shang-A-Lang", as well as classics like "Jingle Bells" and "White Christmas" done up Bay City Roller style. There will be hard copy CDs....available at live shows (nothing yet planned in America, I'm afraid). [UPDATE: I'm reading now that the hard copy available at shows will be limited edition VINYL! Kinda makes me want to go to Scotland.] Personally, I'd love to see them cover the "Saturday Night" parody song "Chanukah Nights" by the Oy City Rollers (yes, that's real and I'd play it for you if I could).
