Koch/E1 Entertainment (no relation to the political Koch brothers) frequently has some interesting holiday releases, which is why its been frustrating that their Christmas distribution book hasn't shown up just yet (it's usually out in June).
This year, though, there are at least two intriguing offerings from the Koch folks just added to the listings at Amazon. Well, four if you count the dual releases on DVD and CD. First up is "A Carol Burnett Christmas". The DVD packaging (subject to change) promises us "4 hillarious, classic Christmas episodes", but it doesn't really specify episodes of what. The natural assumption would be that these are episodes of The Carol Burnett Show. Yet we also have this trailer which looks like something else altogether.
In somewhat the same vein, Koch/E1/Legendary will also be releasing "Christmas Around The World With Perry Como". According to the press for Perry's set, this represents the finest moments of 16 of Perry's holiday specials recut into one two hour program. And Perry did like to do him some globe trotting. There will be guest turns from John Wayne, Debbie Boone, the Vienna Boys Choir, Angie Dickenson, Richard Chamberlain, and Dorothy Hamill (back when she was a lot of kids' favorite crush). I'll tell you honestly that two of my favorite purchases from recent years were the Bing Crosby Holiday Specials DVD and the Peter, Paul & Mary Holiday Concert DVD. There isn't anybody making entertainment like that anymore (no offense Mr. Buble, nice try). Now if we could only get the Carpenters Christmas special released on DVD. Anyway, Perry's Christmas DVD will release November 6, with the corresponding CD currently slated for release on October 16. Oh, and, hey, we've got a trailer for this one, too.
