As I've previously noted, pretty much any music qualifies as Valentine's Day music; most music is about love and heartbreak, after all. But, of the free music I've picked up in the last couple of weeks (excluding those comps we've previously posted here), I really liked this one, have listened to it repeatedly, and the cover and title make it a fine fit.
Katie Carlene is an Indie artist out of Oregon and "Dear Love" is an acoustic freebie you can pick up on Noise Trade. Broadly speaking, it's Indie Folk/Pop, but there's a nice little Roots Americana sound running through this, as well, that helps it fit into the unintentional Valentine's Day theme we seem to be following. I'm unfamiliar with Ms. Carlene, overall, though her debut record is available on Amazon MP3 and iTunes, but I found her voice quite enchanting and her lyrics were simply marvelous. I especially enjoyed "You Could", "It's Not Me, It's You" and "When I'm Alone". From the latter: "You can have my heart for the weekend if you think you can get it to beat again, cause I've tried everything I can think of." Wonderful stuff! And, hey, it's free! So check it out, if you get the chance. I know I'll be keeping an ear open for any Christmas music Ms. Carlene might grace us with down the road.
