Of course, there is no shortage of Halloween music. I dare say its even more plentiful than Christmas music. Why, just take a gander at the list our friends at Hip Christmas/Randy's Rodeo have assembled (and don't forget to try the Haunted Jukebox... buhwwwahhaaahahahaha!).
Our good friend John Anealio, a specialist in Sci-Fi songs and Geek Rock, can always be counted on for a free track (or two) and this year is no exception. John's latest is "Undead Love Song"...because Zombies deserve love, too. (Who'd a-thunk it...Zombie erotica.) You'll find that one at Bandcamp. While there, pick up John's sentimental ode to "the greatest Halloween costume ever"--"A Stormtrooper For Halloween". Hit the "More Releases" button and you'll find plenty more mix-worthy material, including a personal favorite of mine, "Summer Glau", on John's "Sci-Fi Songs" LP--that one's a "name your price" deal.
American treasure Chuck Prophet has a new album coming out. "Temple Beautiful" is set to be released by Yep Roc come January 24, 2012. But Chuck wanted to give people a chance to sample the disc before its release. Being as its October, what better track than "Castro Halloween". Head to ReverbNation for your preview and--in exchange for your email addy--free download of "Castro Halloween". Just in case you were wondering, the Castro involved is the San Francisco movie palace and designated landmark, not the Cuban dictator nor the convertible couch.

Get it free (cover art included) at Bandcamp or at the Wicked Syndicate web site. If you like it well enough, there's a 2010 edition available, including tracks like "Halloween In Da Hood" and "Pumpkin Day". Parental Advisory on that one, too.
Chuck Cheesman makes records ostensibly for kids, but his music has appeal for we older types, too. A perfect example is Chuck's Halloween track "Halloween Freak Out!" from his 2010 album "Dancing With No Shoes On". It's a smart, catchy, pop/folk number with fun lyrics and nice instrumentation that a moldy oldie like me can appreciate. This week and this week only, Chuck is serving up a free download of "Halloween Freak Out!" Head to his website and take advantage. It's a great tune.
I was working in the lab late last night.... when I stumbled across the web site for Monster Mashup featuring their new collection for Halloween 2011--"The Texas Chainsaw Mashacre". Oh, heh, they sleigh me! I'm not going to list all the tracks here; you can get them off the tray insert, but you know its great stuff. Don't bother clicking any of those other buttons, though; they don't seem to go anywhere. Just hit the CD One and CD Two buttons--one of each, thank you very much. If 2 Halloween Mash-Up discs isn't enough for you, you can still pick up djBC's "Son of Monster Mash-Up" from a few years back.
