Oh, man! Where does the time go? Jillaine's second Christmas album, "Jazzy Christmas To You II" released today to iTunes. I'm going to have to find some time to truly enjoy that one. But just had to give it a mention, here, right away. Jillaine is one of my favorite singers, these days, having wowed me with last year's "Jazzy Christmas To You" (read our full review). Though we've linked to iTunes in The List, hard copy is coming to Amazon and other vendors shortly. A free track is no doubt on the way, too. But, in the meantime, stream the album at Reverb Nation and head to Jillaine's site to read what she has to say about it. And Nettwerk has a new Christmas set due November 27th. Also, the former lead singer of Kajagoogoo has a Christmas single coming (for you younger cats and kittens, yes, there really was a band named Kajagoogoo once upon a time). He really needs his 80's hairstyle back. But that's not why I called you all here, today....and turned out the lights.
OK, so I done gone and done it. Again. Unlike last year's mix, I literally did this one on the fly--a minute here, two minutes there. Heck, I haven't even listened to it all the way through myself. So nothing quite so polished as last year's. This set was inspired by Schuyler Fisk's "Zombie", which I found too late for last year. I added a song, here and there, and noticed they were mostly Zombie tunes. A theme was born. Because of the time thing, Side E is a little better put together than Side F. Or not. The artwork isn't as well put together as last year's either. Last year's mix was stuff I've had in my collection for years, mostly. This year's is mostly stuff I stumbled across recently. And this is more a rock mix than the diverse mix I'd prefer. There simply wasn't time.
Love it or hate it, it's free. Pre-mixed again, but free. Some sound effects employed came from Sound Bible (attribution required). No links in the zip, but the track list below is all linked up, so you can find the tuneage used. Hopefully, a bit of a respite for those who just suffered through Sandy. We'll leave it up through Election Day at least (because there's nothing scarier than that). But it will vanish like a ghost in the night soon enough. So go grab it before it grabs you. My favorite track on the mix--Robert Lund's "Undead Elves" (Christmas tie-in and all). "Pumped Up Kicks" is such a great song, so a Zombified parody can't help but be great. A couple of tunes I wanted to use--Molly Gene's "Dancin' In The Graveyard" and Nino Zombi's "Zombie Army" (Punk/Ska Zombies, how could you miss?)--but I thought I heard language that was stronger than I like here at Stubbys. Still, as I say, I haven't listened straight through so a modest Parental Advisory might be in order.
And, hey, some of our Festive Friends have been honoring the haunting season as well. A podcast or two at Santas Working Overtime, A T-shirt countdown at The Wonderful Wonderblog, some spooky slaylists at Music You (Possibly) Won't Hear Anyplace Else, and THE best Halloween Mixtape on the web--bar none--over at Distinctly Jamaican Sounds.
