I do NOT want "Friday" to be the new anthem for the day following Thanksgiving. Surely, you've seen the commercials (I think they're for Kohl's, but I'm not certain--reason enough for them to drop any future use of the song for future "Black Fridays").
Might I suggest this track from Indie Avant-Garde Roots duo Ode Hazelwood. Ode Hazelwood are the husband and wife team of Joseph and Raven Hazelwood and their sound is a perfect blend of experimental low-fi Indie Alt Folk Rock and 20s and 30s Blues and Jazz from scratchy 78s. Their debut album, "Radio Noise", was released in 2007 and the pair was universally praised for their everything new is old again sound. But not much has been heard from Ode Hazelwood since then. They did, however, manage to record "Black Friday Blues" for the 2007 Red Beet Christmas album, "Yuletide From The Other Side" before dropping from sight.
OK, so maybe you can't see a Kohl's commercial playing out to this (I can, but I'm warped). "Black Friday Blues" by Ode Hazelwood is still the best "Black Friday" song ever written. (Steely Dan doesn't count).
