But there are less than 4 dozen copies of this remaining for sale, so I figured I should give you a chance to pick it up while you still can. And it's charity, so... Plus it's Local artists and you know that's a passion of mine. Plus, specifically, it's a Boston (and surrounding) collection, and I love the Boston music scene. Plus, there are a couple of Hanukkah tracks on there, and you know I'm a sucker for those. I haven't tracked down any of the actual tracks for listening or evaluating (nor even any of the bands as yet), but I did buy it. So read into that whatever you will.
The charity is Small Can Be Big and they're sort of the micro-brewery of charities. If the United Way were Budweiser, they'd be Samuel Adams. Smaller means less overhead and less distance between you and the person receiving your help. The idea is that, while the larger charities can make a little difference for a lot of people, Small Can Be Big can make a huge difference in the lives of a few very specific people. For example, there's a ten year old boy with cancer. The family is doing the best they can, pinching every penny, but medical bills are pushing them further and further toward the fiscal cliff. They're hoping to raise a little over $1000 to help keep the creditors from the door and food on the table as they continue treatment for their son. Through Small Can Be Big, you can donate directly to that family. And there are other such direct causes. A lot of their fundraising efforts are made possible by the social media available today.
The album is "Our Finest Gifts" and contains, they promise, many different kinds of seasonal music--religious songs, novelty songs, instrumentals, traditional songs, original songs, Christmas songs, New Year's songs, Hanukkah songs, and a couple of spoken word tracks to boot. If you go to this page, there are links to almost all of the artists included (generally their Facebook pages). Maybe you can check out some of the bands before you spring for the album. Or, if you're like me, just buy the thing blind and hope for the best. It's a mere $20 (postage included) and you know the money is going to get to some very deserving individuals. Go here if you're ready to buy.
