Among living artists, one I've always wanted a Christmas song from is Indie Folk singer Jennie Lowe Stearns. I've always loved Jennie's voice and, before she was a recording artist, she was a friend of a friend and I used to love the impromptu house jam sessions they'd get into. I remember when she did her first studio recording. It wasn't planned or anything. Just happened. And, yes, the moment was kind of magical. And, no, I don't think she's ever re-recorded or released the song "(Better Off) Sailing".
Jennie is performing this weekend (December 14) at Felicia's Atomic Lounge (and Cupcakery!) in Ithaca, New York. And, according to her Facebook page, she's chosen a holiday song for the occasion. Now, it is likely that she's performed holiday material live before, but I've never had advance notice like this. So, on the one in a million chance that anyone reading this is going to be in Ithaca Sunday, could you roll tape, please? And email it to me? I'd really appreciate it.
Here's a song from Jennie Lowe Stearns' Soundcloud feed. It's not a Christmas song, but it might help you understand why a Christmas music freak like me would want a Christmas song featuring such a voice. "Season Of Dreams" appears on Jennie's 2005 album "Sing Desire".
