And I have a feeling he's going to be something really special
And I'm not one to choose some old timey ironic name for my baby
So I wanted to name him something timeless, but modern
Like Lazarus or Mathias
But then the other night, my husband Joseph sat me down and he said
"Mary, I know that, by all accounts, your grandfather was a real son of a bitch
But I think it'd mean a lot to your parents if we named our boy after him."
I begrudgingly agreed.
So, though it's a bit of a mouthful,
We decided to name our baby
Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior

All that said, when people look back 30 or 40 years from now, I think they are going to recognize this dude as the finest, most original, and most significant writer of Christmas songs of his era. Sufjan who? Pffft. Kids stuff. Alex Feder is the man. Under the band name Still A Great Night, he writes Christmas songs of our time... Christmas songs that channel all of the anxiety, angst, and anger we all feel into one four or five minute song and then, after letting it all out, channel it back into something positive.
Some will see "Dead Birds & The Virgin Mary" as an anti-Christmas song. But it isn't at all. That totally misses the point. Still A Great Night acknowledges the reality, rather than paint over it with snowfalls and twinkling lights, and then gets to a very spiritual place...forgiveness. Even if your proclamations of forgiveness feel insincere, fake it until you make it. And remember that your forgiveness of others means less if you can not forgive yourself.
"Dead Birds & The Virgin Mary" is Still A Great Night's third annual Christmas single...each one a perfect gemstone. They are more poetry than song. There's humor, but there's something very real, too. They are genius.
Like maybe he'll be an educator to help raise the literacy rates
Among those outside the imperial elites
Or maybe he'll be a pro-bono tax lawyer for the agrarian Roman peasant class
OR, I dunno, maybe he'll literally rise from the dead
To be the salvation of mankind
After being tortured and killed by the f#@%ing man
But my son is going to be born tomorrow
And I have the feeling that he's going to be something really special
