I had figured on Gary U.S. Bonds being my first new album purchase of the 2012 holiday season. Hadn't counted on the album from The New Royalty (who we introduced you to back in June) coming out so soon. But here it is. "Spend Christmas With Me".

Not many bands would have the BALLS to open a Christmas album with "O Holy Night" (easily my favorite traditional Christmas song) let alone to rock it into the next century. I got chills, I tellz ya. The hair on the back of my neck is at full attention. Anybody remember that commercial for Maxell cassette tape--the one where the sound is like a cool strong wind blowing the guys scarf and hair backwards? Yeah, well I'm that guy. If you wanted to make a statement to open a Christmas record, you couldn't have done it any better. Wow! I'm just super psyched by this one. This is why I love Christmas albums from artists on the rise.
We'll have more to offer after I give this a fair listen--and after you have the chance to give it a listen of your own. But you should know that there are several originals among the 14 tracks. You should know that the whole band brought their "A" game--this ain't no toss off--and vocalist Bree Lafelice especially is a force to be reckoned with on this set. You should know that, right now, this is a digital release; but, if hard copy follows, I will buy it again in a heartbeat. And pay no attention to the July 1 release date listed at the online retailers; near as I can tell, this reached both iTunes and Amazon simultaneously on Thursday (August 30). Most of all, you should know that "Spend Christmas With Me" KICKS ASS! Royally!!
