There are still many Christmas release announcements to come, but the rumor mill is continuing to grind (the "will they or won't they" kind of thing) and its actually getting a bit late for that.
Front and center is a document allegedly leaked from the offices of Polydor that says Lady Gaga WILL be releasing a Christmas album this year, but only in the UK. Me, I'm not buying it. Why? Because it makes no sense. Gaga has nothing to gain and plenty to lose pulling a stunt like that and everything to gain and nothing to lose from a worldwide release. For an artist like Gaga, you either do a Christmas album or you don't. I can understand some of the logistics arguments that might be made. But still, for an American artist to release a UK only Christmas album is self-defeating. If logistics are the issue, it would be far better to release a digital holiday single this year and hold the full album for next. Everywhere. And then there's the whole issue of the Barney's deal. The New York department store is turning over their window displays and an entire floor to Gaga and there's no way you can tie that in to an album that's only available overseas. Not that any tie-in is required. But if you're releasing a Christmas record anyway, releasing it only overseas is a waste of an opportunity. At the end of the day, this sounds more like an attempt by the label to build domestic demand than anything else. Then again, Gaga is Gaga, so anything is possible.
Other Gaga holiday rumors have the Christmas release being EP length and coming in November.
We're still waiting for substantial news on Little Big Town's upcoming holiday set, though Karen Fairchild has revealed the titles of two of the tracks to be included. One is the holiday standard "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas". The other, written by Mindy Smith and Chely Wright, is called "Santa Will Find You". The later previously appeared on Mindy Smith's own Christmas album in 2007, "My Holiday", and was covered by Poema on their digital EP "Once A Year" in 2010.
The folks from Glee have also leaked two song titles from their sophomore Christmas album--"Do You Hear What I Hear" and a Glee take on the Bruce Springsteen arrangement of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town".

Disney favorites AllStar Weekend (left) are also rumored to be cutting a Christmas disc, which seems simultaneously obvious and unlikely. Obvious because the Disney factory telescopes careers and would practically compel a Christmas album this year. Unlikely because the group's second full-length album, "All The Way", is due Tuesday and releasing a Christmas album that soon after a regular album is generally not done...not even in Disneyland.

In the same category are rumors that Gospel singer Le'Andria Johnson will be releasing a Christmas album before the end of the year. Johnson was the winner of Sunday Best Season 3, BET and Gospel music's answer to American Idol, and her debut release "The Awakening" came out September 6. Fans have been divided about the album with some hating on it rabidly, but sales have been strong with the album sitting at #1 on Billboard's Gospel charts and reaching #24 on their Top 200 album charts.
So why would an artist or record company release a Christmas album now? Usually, you want to ride the full wave of a record--especially a debut record--before putting out anything else? But Da Gospel Truth reports a Le'Andria Christmas album this year is a 95% certainty. Well, if the spirit so moves her, I'm up for it. I'm up for just about anything.
