MariSela MuSik is an emerging artist, currently based in the Netherlands, though her origins are in Caracas, Venezuela. MariSela literally goes wherever the music takes her. She taught herself guitar at the age of 12, studied for awhile at a Music Conservatory in Caracas, dropped out and joined a pop/rock band. That took MariSela to Aruba. After several years in Aruba, the music called MariSela to the Netherlands. And, when the music calls, MariSela follows.
Earlier this year, MariSela's debut album "She Confidential" was released. The album was fairly typical of MariSela's sound in that there's nothing "typical" about it at all. This is not an artist who can be musically summed up in a word or two, and not one who will be contained in a box of any kind. MariSela's music is a fusion of all the music and experience of her life. You'll hear elements from folk, pop, rock, Latin, electronic, trip hop, acoustic, world music, and much more. Look for "She Confidential" on Amazon, CD Baby, iTunes and Bandcamp (in a shortened version). I was especially fond of "Some Kind O' Magic", personally; it was delightful and surprising. And there's much more music to listen to from MariSela on her Soundcloud page.
MariSela's also producing for other artists these days. And I bring that up only because I love this cover of The Turtles "So Happy Together" she produced for Angel+A. Check it out when you get the chance.
MariSela's Christmas single is "Winter Lullaby". Lyrically, it's a bit of a blue Christmas with a broken heart. But there's a calmness about it, as well. Musically, it's a beautiful ballad in an Indie folk/pop vein, but with decidedly ambient overtones. "Winter Lullaby" is included on the the Redruth Radio compilation "Sounds From The Cloud" (available on Bandcamp) and will appear on an upcoming MariSela MuSik album as well (if I understand correctly, a collection that will include some of the tracks MariSela has produced for others, so maybe that "So Happy Together" will put in an appearance).
Download "Winter Lullaby" using the Soundcloud widget above. And get to know MariSela better by visiting her on Facebook, Reverbnation, and Tumblir. Oh, she also has a YouTube channel. That's always cool.
